Dry the dog as completely as possible with a soft, clean, dry towel.

Use a brush and a hair dryer on a low heat setting to complete the drying job.

Your Peke’s eyes must be protected at all times. Soap can irritate your Peke’s eyes, so take special care during bathing.

After a good bath and thorough drying, your Peke can be given the final touches.

TRIMMING

Feet should always be checked thoroughly for any dirt trapped between the pads and for knots that may have formed. The hair that grows between the pads should be scissored carefully, as any build-up of knots or debris causes discomfort and can disturb movement.

EAR CLEANING

The Pekingese’s hair will also grow inside the ears. This should be carefully plucked out with blunt-ended tweezers. Remove only a few hairs at a time and this should be entirely painless.

NAIL FILING

You can purchase an electric tool to grind down a dog’s nails rather than cut them. Some dogs don’t seem to mind the electric grinder but will object strongly to nail clippers. Talking it over with your veterinarian will help you make the right choice.
